What is the difference between 925 sterling silver and 990 sterling silver?

925 sterling silver means that the silver content of the jewelry is 925 thousandths. 990 sterling silver means that the silver content is 990 thousandths.

925/990 respectively represent the purity of silver. Because silver is very soft, alloys need to be added to pure silver to increase its hardness in order to withstand processing and shaping.

Will 925 sterling silver jewelry oxidize? Will it be sensitive?

Sterling silver jewelry will not rust, but long-term exposure to air and frequent moisture will accelerate oxidation. If the jewelry becomes oxidized and turns black, you can use a silver cloth to wipe it or wash it with toothpaste to restore its luster.

Silver gold-plated jewelry is made of sterling silver and plated with 14K/18K gold. Since it is not made of pure gold, the gold-plated surface has a certain lifespan. It can be a few years or a few months, depending on your personal constitution and wearing habits.

After wearing for a certain period of time, the gold plating on the surface will peel off and become lighter in color. This is normal.

Generally speaking, wearing sterling silver jewelry is not allergic, but it depends on personal constitution. Some people may oxidize faster due to different personal constitutions.

How to maintain it?

925 sterling silver/990 sterling silver jewelry can be wetted with water, but you need to avoid contact with hot spring water; sea water or other chemicals such as perfume, shower gel, may accelerate oxidation. Drying it as soon as possible will reduce the oxidation.

If you want to perfectly maintain the appearance and color of silver jewelry, it is recommended to put it in a flannel bag or a sealed bag when not wearing it to reduce contact with air and slow down oxidation.

If there is a problem of oxidation, yellowing and blackening, you can use a silver cloth or toothpaste to clean it to restore the luster. If you have silver washing water, you can also use it.

Regular maintenance can extend the life of jewelry. Even if there is no obvious oxidation, it is recommended that customers wipe it regularly.

If the oxidation is serious, you can use toothpaste/silver cleaner with a soft cloth or soft-bristled toothbrush to wipe it, and then just rinse it with water and dry it.

But please note⚠️Pure silver gold-plated jewelry should not be wiped with a silver wipe frequently, as it will cause the gold plating on the surface to peel off and turn back to silver.

Free Size? Ring Size?

Depending on the style, the softness and hardness of silver will vary. Generally, open rings can be adjusted to different sizes, but they do not mean they are suitable for everyone.

Even if you are buying an open-ended model, you need to refer to the recommended sizes. When adjusting the size of an open ring, please start with light pressure.

Rings may break if they are overstretched or adjusted frequently. Therefore, after adjusting to the appropriate size, you should avoid frequently adjusting it up or down.
